Following the CMI strategic business plan endorsement by its Members and Partners at the CMI Annual Meeting in December 2014, members of CMI’s Oversight Committee (OC) gathered to review the region’s challenges, discuss strategic priorities and identify opportunities for deeper collaboration within the CMI for the next phase extending from 1^st July 2015 to 30 June 2018.

The meeting was held in Marseille on June 3^rd, 2015 and aimed to discuss ways through which CMI can maximize its impact in the Mediterranean Region, especially by selecting the key regional themes and cross cutting issues that should be scaled up in the CMI next phase.

The selection of themes and work program was in accordance with the CMI objectives and added value of providing regional public goods that are needed to address the problems of the region. Hence, the OC discussions were based on the identification of the areas which:

• Correspond to member countries development priorities
• Create synergy with parallel efforts by development institutions
• Offer greatest potential for regional cooperation and sharing of solutions
• Necessitate multi-country action to achieve lasting results

Following the discussions, members of the OC encouraged CMI to reinforce its role as a generator of innovative solutions and promoter of collective actions in the Mediterranean region. The Committee recommended that the thematic focus of the CMI in the upcoming phase would be on youth.
