CMI 2014 Annual Report: “Knowledge. Solutions. Change”

  • Following opening statements by Inger Andersen World Bank MENA Vice president, Hakim Ben Hammouda Minister of Economy and Finance in Tunisia, Michel Vauzelle President of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region and Mourad Ezzine CMI Manager, the report provides an overview of the Center’s main achievements since its creation in 2009, a review of 2014 activities (multi-partner programs, Mediterranean dialogue Forum, communication and partnership) and presents the main lines of action for 2015-2018.

the Annual report emphasizes that Knowledge lies at the heart of the CMI’s pursuit of its mission. Over the next decade, knowledge will be an essential ingredient of the transition of southern Mediterranean countries, and the CMI will play an important role in offering member countries opportunities to learn from one another, to generate ideas together, and to improve policies based on evidence and results.

Enriched by the diversity of its partners, the CMI takes a unique approach to knowledge. Seeking to complement rather than duplicate the efforts of its partners, the CMI will focus on identifying and disseminating solutions relevant to a region in transition. Its nimble organizational structure allows it to react efficiently to its members’ priorities as well as to the fast-changing economic and political context.

Moving forward, and building on the conclusions and recommendations of the independent assessment, as well as on broad consultations with members, the CMI has an opportunity to reposition itself as a platform to disseminate and broker knowledge. As it approaches the end of its current mandate, the Center presents a new strategic framework comprising three business areas: i) Mediterranean Knowledge Platform; ii) Mediterranean Dialogue Forum; and iii) Action-Oriented Programs. This framework will serve to refine the Center’s capacity to leverage the diversity and richness of its partners and reinforce the Center’s strategic relevance in the region.
