Expert meeting with the German government: "Towards a development friendly labor migration policy – experiences and new concepts" (Berlin)

Governments and non-governmental actors in migrant sending and receiving countries are preparing for increased levels of skilled labor migration. While the impact of regular migration on the development of both types of countries has become obvious – at least with regard to the volume and impact of remittances – there is still a significant lack of concepts and ideas concerning coherent development-friendly labor migration policies. In partnership with the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) and in the presence of the Ministry of Cooperation (BMZ) and various other federal ministries involved in international migration issues, the ILM team offered innovative views on how to turn brain drain into brain gain and discussed concrete ways to implement new types of partnerships between Germany and North African countries in the area of training and skilled migration.
