6th Annual Conference on International Migration and Development (International University of Rabat and Al Akhawayn University of Ifrane)

Organized by the World Bank, the CMI, the French Development Agency (AFD), and the Center for Global Development, in partnership with Morocco's Ministry for Moroccans Residing Abroad as well as with several international universities, the conference brought leading international researchers and senior policy makers together to discuss the impacts of migration on the development of labor sending countries and relevant policy implications for Morocco. The participants discussed how labor-sending governments can capture robust migration-related data as a precondition for the formulation of good policy; how migrants can provide positive development impacts for labor-sending countries during all phases of the migration process – from pre-departure to return; and how labor exporting countries can turn brain drain into brain gain by developing coordinated training and mobility programs with labor receiving countries.  The conference took place in two parts, with a public policy day held at the International University of Rabat on May 16 and an academic conference held at the Al Akhawayn University of Ifrane on May 18-19.
