The outcomes of the Syrian crisis fall the hardest on those who found themselves suddenly forced to leave their normal life behind and run for their lives seeking refuge in a country that is so foreign to them. Life away from Syria is not normal and in a country like Turkey where the language is different, more odds are stacked against those looking to rebuild their future. This photo reportage documents aspirations, hopes, challenges and some aspects of life away from Syria.
Photos were taken in Turkey, in the Harran city camp, International Middle East Peace Research Center (IMPR) Urfa Community Center for refugees in Sanliurfa and the Art and Peace center in Gaziantep. These initiatives, illustrate the efforts local authorities in host countries are deploying to promote social cohesion between refugees and host communities. More on the topic of social cohesion here.
