National Innovation Systems: Input, Output, and Impact

  • While all countries in the MENA region recognize the importance of innovation in the road to a Knowledge Economy, an articulated understanding of National innovation Systems (NIS) is lacking, and few data is available on the countries’ capacities and performance on innovation.

The EIB through the CMI is organising with the collaboration of the UNESCWA Technology Center a regional workshop on National innovation Systems on the 25th and 26th of November, 2013 at EI Hassan Science City- Royal Scientific Society, Amman, Jordan.

The workshop aims to highlight the importance of embracing a comprehensive NIS approach, to identify the corresponding challenges and opportunities to NIS in the region, to present methodologies for measuring its functioning and effectiveness, and to discuss the requirement to set up effective national innovation observatories. The two days’ workshop will gather key policy makers from MENA region as well as experts from organisations such the Technopolis Group or the OECD.
