Sustainable Urban Development - SUD-MED

Status: Completed
  • These initiatives are linked to the identification and preparation of sustainable urban development investment projects, finding innovative financing approaches, and overcoming key barriers to project development  – “Medinas” focusing on historic urban cores, and “UPFI” and the Network of Urban Developers covering wider city investment programmes.

SUD-MED is a vehicle for diffusing the findings of these initiatives and sharing experience in areas such as socio-economic development, environmental sustainability, employment creation, integration of vulnerable urban populations, and institutional set-up.

SUD-MED is co-led by the European Investment Bank, the Agence Française de Développement and Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations and involves the Secretariat General of the Union for the Mediterranean, the European Union (DG Development and Cooperation), KfW, World Bank and other institutions as partners.  It involves close cooperation with urban policy and project decision makers at national and local level, project managers, experts, and other urban stakeholders.
