  • Starts: Nov 14, 2018
  • Ends: Nov 14, 2018
  • Location: Marseille, France
  • By: CMI

  • Background

46.5% of the total population in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region is under the age of 24 making it one most youthful regions worldwide.

However, young populations throughout the region are experiencing a threefold exclusion on the economic, social and political levels, with high unemployment and a lack of opportunities to take part in civic and political life or to influence decision making.

This session was the first in the third phase of the Cycle économique (discussion series) and chose to focus on the links between education, labor mobility and employability as a means to empower the youth into becoming the engine for change in the region.

    Context

Exploring interrelated topics such as education, migration and employability is key for the inclusion of youth and the construction of a new narrative around labor mobility in the Mediterranean. Throughout the workshop, the participants discussed the role of education, migration and employability or lack of it in shaping the future of youth in the region and presented their take on the linkages between these topics and the possible effects of such correlation might have on the young generation.
