World Bank – CMI Joint Webinar Series
Knowledge Exchange on Green Hydrogen for the Mediterranean Region
Thursday April 29, 2021 | 09:00 EDT/15:00CET
The Center for Mediterranean Integration (CMI) and the World Bank are organizing a series of webinars to promote the exchange of information among the key players, assess investments needed to establish a Mediterranean hydrogen market, and identify regulatory requirements.
Previous webinars have shown that the Mediterranean region could become a major trading hub for green hydrogen, as it encompasses both countries with excellent renewable energy resources and those with demand likely to boom as they seek carbon neutrality.
Well-founded national and regional policy frameworks will be essential to realize the potential for green hydrogen to contribute both to environmental goals and to socioeconomic growth throughout the region.
This third webinar of the series will start with an overview of the principles and formulation processes that underpin good policy to support hydrogen market development, including setting national strategies, identifying policy priorities, establishing governance systems and enabling policies, and creating and harmonizing standards and certification systems.
Speakers from several Mediterranean countries will then discuss their emerging national strategies, exemplifying how they have begun to grapple with laying the foundations for the region’s future carbon economy.
