UFM and CMI Seal Partnership

  • Marseille, France, 13 November 2018 – The Center for Mediterranean Integration (CMI), and the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) signed a 3-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) marking the launch of a new collaboration agreement between the two organizations. The parties will cooperate on promoting development and integration in the Euro-Mediterranean region, for peace, stability and prosperity.

This partnership coincides with the tenth’s anniversary of the two institutions. It builds on the complementarity of the Mediterranean institutions’ respective mandates: the UfM’s political dialogue and policy platforms and knowledge together with CMI’s technical expertise. By designing and implementing joint actions, and by mutualizing their members, partners and networks, this fortified collaboration will create synergies for more impact.

“We believe a close cooperation with the Center for Mediterranean Integration (CMI) is evidently a major asset to us and to the whole region, the CMI’s technical expertise coupled with our broad and vast engagement for regional integration will make for more impactful implementation of our projects in the region”, says Nasser Kamel, Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean.

The time has come to strengthen this partnership with the Union for the Mediterranean” says Blanca Moreno-Dodson, Manager of the Center for Mediterranean Integration. “The Mediterranean certainly is a challenging region; however, it also holds enormous potentials, especially with its youthful population. It is essential that we capitalize on our complementarity with the Union for the Mediterranean and that we unify our efforts in order to bring our common stakeholders to work together and share expertise. This we believe, will help unlock the region’s full potential.”

CMI and UfM’s collaboration will aim at responding to the emerging needs of the region, focusing on short term priorities, as well as longer term development issues. The collaboration will take various forms, such as organizing joint conferences, workshops and trainings; producing joint studies; mutualizing networks and outreach.
