Challenges

• Energy Efficiency efforts are too limited in the region while the energy demand is rising substantially in the region.
• Existing Solutions and good practice are not sufficiently shared to inform policy choices.

Program Objective

To build government awareness of the need to promote energy efficiency reforms. 

Selected Results

• Deepened knowledge/informed policy choice: The results of lessons learned from the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE) analysis of energy efficiency were shared with Middle East and North Africa (MENA) country representatives and can be used to improve delivery mechanisms and institutional arrangements for accelerating energy efficiency reforms. The RCREE study provides a gap analysis and a review of new work on energy projections, efficiency potential, and benefits.
• Improved network: A restitution workshop was organized at the Center for Mediterranean Integration (CMI) in September 2014 with the participation of ten representatives from seven countries (Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Qatar, Tunisia) and nine partners interested in energy efficiency [German Federal Enterprise for International (GIZ), French Development Agency (AFD), European Investment Bank (EIB), Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), MEDENER (the Mediterranean Association of National Agencies of Energy Conservation), Economic Foresight Institute for the Mediterranean Region (IPEMED), Plan Bleu, the World Bank, RCREEE]. The discussion enabled closer exchanges among existing networks.
