General information of the Workshop:
LOGISMED High Level Seminar on Logistic Training Needs in the Mediterranean Partner Countries (MPC) took place on 23-24 November, 2010 in Barcelona, in the context of the Mediterranean Week of Economic Leaders. The two day event was a stepping stone to the T1 cluster (Transport and Logistics) as it gathered around 40 training specialists, experts in logistics and practitioners from the European Union and the Mediterranean Partner Countries. Participants gave presentations covering the situation of the logistic sector in different MPC as well their visions for what concerns the future of logistics. The seminar identified the key issues on training needs and the its final conclusions will contribute to the definition of the contents of a regional study aiming at identifying and proposing solutions to meet those needs, among which the establishment of a region-wide logistics training initiative in the MPC.
The opening session included speeches by representatives from EIB, ASCAME, IEMED and Catalonian Regional Government. Working sessions during the first day were focused on the view of the logistics operators and the industrial sector stakeholders. Speakers and participants pointed out the relevance of training in logistics and the importance to dispose of employees who are professionally trained. During the second day discussions were focused on the educational aspects from the public administration point of view and key questions of the program were analyzed, as to what kind of training should be provided and on what levels should the study focus on (managerial versus operational levels) as well as the financing aspects of the training programs. Suggestions were made on the content of the education to be provided.
Despite the different cultures in logistic training, all the participants highlighted the importance of continuous education. Participants agreed that the content of the study should consider a region wide approach when it comes to the type of training to be provided and were confronted with the request to give clear indications on the critical issues related to the logistics training situation in the MPC and on the best ways to handle them under the LOGISMED initiative.

The High-Level Seminar held during the afternoon of the 23rd and the morning of the 24th of November congregated some 40 experts in logistics and in logistics training coming from most Mediterranean Partner Countries (MPCs) and from several EU member countries. There were numerous presentations from representatives of the public sector and from private logistic operators, industrialists and specialists in logistic education and training, followed by questions, and a round table at the end of the formal sessions in which all major issues were thoroughly discussed. |
