CMI - MARSEILLE CENTER FOR MEDITERRANEAN INTEGRATION

HIGHLIGHTS

Strategic Urban Development program

The Strategic Urban Development program would cover areas related to regional and urban planning, urban land management, and urban expansion and renewal. The first component would review public policies that address regional imbalances and provide advisory work for planning instruments in selected main urban centers. The second component would address the difficult institutional issues of land management, notably in relation to property rights issues. The third component would explore the multidimensional aspects of large-scale urban renewal or expansion projects, including the development of new towns. The program as a whole will include policy conferences and workshops, analytical studies and technical advisory services, as well as a variety of dissemination and information sharing activities. Close collaboration will be established with other institutes working in the field (such as the Arab Urban Institute) and city and local government networks (such as the UCLG Med Commission). An international conference on City Development Strategies will be jointly organized with the MedCities Network and City Alliance, and is planned to take place in 2010.
